Project Evergreen - Phase 02

Medical Outreach & Community Healthcare

As part of Project Evergreen – Phase 02, Live Love & Give partnered with the volunteer medical team of Alabaster International to provide medical care and nutritional support to underserved elderly communities in Padaviya and Welioya. Through a combination of community clinics and home visits, the team delivered essential healthcare services and vital nutritional assistance to individuals who would otherwise have limited access to these resources.

28 Home Visits – Padaviya

Delivered medical care directly to bed-bound and wheelchair-bound patients who were unable to travel to the clinic.

102 Patients Assessed – Welioya

Provided healthcare through a hybrid community clinic and mobile outreach model, making essential medical services accessible to rural families.

Comprehensive Health Screenings

Conducted blood pressure, blood glucose, body temperature, respiratory and abdominal assessments to identify health concerns and provide timely treatment.

Primary Medical Care

Delivered wound care, treated skin conditions, managed asthma, acute pain and gastritis, and distributed essential medications where required.

Nutritional Support

Identified 17 malnourished elderly individuals and provided high-calorie nutritional supplements, including Sustagen and Suposha, to improve their health and wellbeing.

Specialist Referrals

Patients requiring additional medical attention were referred to appropriate healthcare facilities to ensure ongoing treatment and continuity of care.

Community Medical Clinics

Over the course of the outreach programme, the team treated approximately 120 patients across two regions.

  • Padaviya (Day 2): 28 patients received medical care through targeted home visits for individuals who were unable to travel.
  • Welioya (Day 3): 103 patients were reached through a hybrid clinic and mobile outreach model, including 17 malnourished individuals who received specialised nutritional support.
  • Paediatric Clinic: A dedicated children’s clinic provided medical care for 26 young patients, focusing on routine health assessments and early intervention.

Clinical Services Provided

Our multidisciplinary medical team delivered a broad range of primary healthcare services, including:

  • Comprehensive health assessments and vital sign monitoring
  • Blood pressure, blood glucose and temperature screening
  • Respiratory (lung/chest) and abdominal examinations
  • Wound care and treatment of common skin conditions
  • Assessment and treatment of acute pain and gastrointestinal illnesses, including gastritis
  • Asthma assessments and distribution of essential inhaler medication
  • Nutritional assessments for vulnerable elderly individuals
  • Distribution of high-calorie nutritional supplements, including Sustagen and Suposha, for patients identified as malnourished
Home-Based Medical Care

Recognising that many elderly and vulnerable patients were unable to travel, our medical team conducted home visits to ensure they received medical assessments, treatment, medication and compassionate care within their own homes.

Referral and Follow-up Care

Patients requiring specialised treatment or further investigations were referred to appropriate healthcare providers, ensuring continuity of care beyond the outreach programme.

A Collaborative Effort

The success of this initiative was made possible through the dedication of international medical volunteers, local healthcare professionals and community partners working together to improve access to quality healthcare for vulnerable families in rural Sri Lanka.
